Shuffle Dance

It’s not until 2009 that Shuffle dance was introduced Vietnam. However, only few people know that this exciting dance has appeared around the world since the 80s.

Shuffle Dance is a modern dance, not too hard to learn but looks extremely eye-catching and has a high aesthetic, very suitable for dynamic young people who are passionate about dancing or have a desire to lose weight, improve their physique.

Shuffle Dance mainly focuses on the rhythmic movement of the legs and does not require so many poses.

The history of Shuffle Dance began in Melbourne (Australia) in the late 80s, when people often called Shuffle Dance under the name Melbourne Shuffle, or Rocking, or The shuffle. This is a dance often seen in bars / clubs or rave (roughly translated: electronic music festival) at that time.

Melbourne Shuffle was originated from ‘Stomping’ – a dance originating from the traditional folk dance of Celtic people in Western Europe, it’s a combination of tap dance and footsteps in traditional ballet.

In the early 90s, Melbourne Shuffle was introduced one more time with a combination of more hand movements and popular music for Shuffle dancing at that time: Trance music. Along with the development and popularity of hiphop, the b-boys combine Melbourne Shuffle into their dance and gradually brought it out of the club, rave and starting to appear more on the street.

In the middle of the late 90s, Shuffle Dance began to grow more widely and there were a lot of shuffle videos were recorded. During this time there were also more variations in Melbourne Shuffle movements, but the main feature was heel-to-toe movements. Another special thing about Shuffle Dance during this time is that the movement of the hands is more focused than present.

In 2004, a documentary called “Melbourne Shuffle” was shot in a many bars, clubs, electronic music festivals, outdoor events, etc. in Melbourne. In 2005, the Melbourne Shuffle DVD was released and since then has had a great influence on the music style of DJs and music producers at the time, they began to speed up the tracks (140-160bpm).

In 2006, along with the development of Youtube, the dancers shared and popularized their Shuffle dance more to the world, helping more people to know and easily learn each other’s movements. This is also the most significant change in the movements of the hands and feet of the Shuffle Dance dance because there are so many people practicing with different variations. To this day, most of Shuffle Dance’s movements are based on the catching the rhythm and bass of the song.

In the first half of 2009, the trend of showing off Shuffle videos on Youtube began to cool down and prepare for a new era of Shuffle Dance: “Old school” style. During this time, the dancers prefer to use new variations of T-step and Running Man techniques, which are emphasized on sliding and rotating movements.

2011 is a peak year of Shuffle Dance with Music Video (MV): Party Rock Anthem of LMFAO duo. With the catchy melody, the eye-catching Shuffle dances and the striking line “Every day I’m shufflin”, the song has reached over 1 billion views on Youtube, standing on the top chart for many and bringing Shuffle Dance dance to become a new trend globally.

With the strong development of the electronic music movement (EDM) in recent years, people are currently dancing Shuffle on a variety of different music genres. However, Melbourne Bounce is still the most suitable music for the Shuffle because of its characteristic bass.
